Progreso is a growing town.

1. The US geographical Service has discovered the world's largest deposit of OIL in the Gulf of Mexico between the Yucatan, Florida and Cuba.
2. Progreso is fast becoming a CRUISE port for Carnival and other cruise lines. A full service cruise ship depot is in the plans for Progreso. Although  at present only 8 cruise ships arrive per week in Progreso , it has the capacity to accommodate over 10 ships per day.
3. A new international airport is being built near Progreso to accommodate the cruise ship passengers.
4. Progreso is one and a half hours flying time from Houston, Miami, Cancun and Mexico City.
5. A passenger/car ferry will start operations in April twice a week from Tampa Bay.

As Progreso continues to welcome both international and national tourists as well as business people, new and exciting business opportunities continue to abound.

As of October 2005 there are opportunities for:

1. Real estate development of hotels, mini-resorts and tourist attractions
2. A golf course is a big opportunity. Full course and mini-golf.
3. Water sports facilities and ocean tours and fishing excursions are non-existent.
4. Developer of a retirement village for North Americans.
5. Real estate sales and property management.
