Come stay at Casa Isidora, take care of your health and recover in a warm and friendly environment.
Have you heard of the new concept, health tourism? Well, health tourism is alive and well in teh Yucatan, Merida and Progreso.
Merida has an ever-expanding infrastructure including hospitals, clinics and individual doctors' offices, all with modern equipment. It is expected that a new hospital is soon to be built that will take US Medicare patients.
Presently people come to Merida for dental work, plastic surgery rehabilitation, eye surgery glasses and much more.
Many dentists in Merida have had excellent training here in Mexico, in the US and in Europe and they treat an international clientele. The reason behind this phenomena is cost and, believe it or not, quality. We have heard many people say that they came to Merida to do dental work and have a vacation, all for less than the cost of one crown in the US or Canada. We have also heard that people feel the healthcare in Mexico is "more humane" and that the dental work they have had done here rivals or exceeds the quality of the same kind of work they have had done in the States.
Tummy tucks, liposuction, breast work, and nose and eyelid jobs are some of the procedures both men and women are having done at the offices of the local plastic surgeons. Not only are the procedures less expensive here, and just as good, but the time spent here for recovery can be more enjoyable and less expensive.
If for some unfortunate reason you need emergency healthcare in Merida, you can feel comfortable knowing that you will receive first class care. And all at a reasonable price. The Centro Medico de Las Americas (Calle 54 two blocks from the Hotel Fiesta Americana and one block from Wal-Mart) is a full-service hospital affiliated with the Mercy Hospital in Miami, Florida. Another hospital in Merida is affiliated with Houston's Anderson Hospital. In Progreso the Centro Medico Americano just half a block from the Main Plaza, is a small hospital affiliated with some of the best hospitals in Merida just 25 miles away.
If you are interested in alternative healthcare, Merida has a healthy contingent of accupuncturists, chiropractors and other types of practitioners. And like all of Mexico, there is a long tradition of homeopathic medicine here. Homeopathic doctors are well attended here and the medicines are easy to obtain.
Pharmacies are called farmacias and they can also be helpful. If you know what you need, or have an empty bottle of your customary medicine, you can take it to a pharmacy and they will give you what you need without a prescription.
Many medicines in Mexico have slightly different names but are essentially the same thing, and often cheaper. A certain number of pharmacies in each district are open 24 hours a day.
